An interdisciplinary workshop will take place in Blaubeuren, near Ulm (Southern Germany), from July 9 to July 12, 2009, with the aim of gathering scientist from different areas working on dynamical systems on networks.

The conference is jointly organized by the graduate school "Mathematical Analysis of Evolution, Information and Complexity" at the University of Ulm and the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience at the University of Freiburg.

Topics

The workshop will feature 5 mini-courses and several short communications held by other guests.

The minicourse will be

  • Fatihcan Atay (Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, Leipzig): "Graphs, Matrices, and Dynamics on Networks"
  • Nicolas Brunel (Laboratory of Neurophysics and Physiology, Université Paris 5): "Dynamics of Networks of Spiking Neurons"
  • Vadim Kostrykin (Institute of Mathematics, Universität Mainz): "Quantum Graphs: Spectral, scattering, and evolution problems"
  • Fritz Sommer (Redwood Center for Theoretical Neuroscience, University of California, Berkeley): "Computational models for the visual system employing the dynamics in recurrent neural networks"
  • Thomas Wennekers (Centre for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience, University of Plymouth): "Formal Concept Structure in Cell Assemblies"

Aim of the workshop

Dynamical systems on graphs or networks play an increasingly important role as models in various fields of science (physics, biology, engineering, social sciences, cybernetics, to mention only a few). We are far from a general and unified understanding of the relation between model dynamics and the intrinsic structure of the underlying graph. However, theoretical advances and specific methods and models in different fields have been developed to this aim. Our aim is to gather scientist from different areas working on network-related topics.

Organisational informations

The meeting will start on Thursday, July 9, 2009 in the morning, and will end on Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the afternoon.
